<p dir="ltr">Bible verse: Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a<br>
son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and<br>
his name shall be called<br>
Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father,<br>
The Prince of Peace.”<br>
Every child of God is born to be a wonder to the world.<br>
According to John 3:8, everyone born of the spirit is born a<br>
living wonder. Mark 16:17-18 says” And these signs shall follow<br>
them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they<br>
shall speak with new tongues;They shall take up serpents; and if<br>
they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay<br>
hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”<br>
By divine ordination, every child of God is born a sign and<br>
wonder by divine ordination. Isaiah 8: 18 says “ Behold, I and the<br>
children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for<br>
wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in<br>
mount Zion”.<br>
Even though we know who we are, we need to know how to<br>
operate in that realm. What do you need to do to be a sign and<br>
wonder.?<br>
Exodus 4:17 says “And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand,<br>
wherewith thou shalt do signs” and Isaiah 11:1 says “And there<br>
shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch<br>
shall grow out of his roots:And the spirit of the LORD shall rest<br>
upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of<br>
counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the<br>
LORD” Combinning these two verses, it is clear that to be a sign<br>
and wonder you need to carry Jesus every where you go. The<br>
name of Jesus is so full of wonders and engaging that name<br>
‘Jesus’ is one way to evoke signs and wonders to flow in our<br>
life.<br>
In Acts 3: 6 Peter had no money to give the lame man but with<br>
the name of Jesus he was able to do wonders and the lame man<br>
got up and began to walk. The name of Jesus can bring anybody<br>
out from issues of life.<br>
You need to know how to engage the name of Jesus to see<br>
wonders in your life. There is healing, protection, blessing in the<br>
name of Jesus. The name of Jesus is key to answered prayers,<br>
when you pray to God in the name of Jesus,you grab God’s<br>
attention. The name of Jesus opens the doors of heaven ( John<br>
14:12) The name of Jesus is anointed, the name of Jesus<br>
destroys yokes, demons are subjected to the name. When you<br>
engage that name against the operation, the anointing goes<br>
forth to fight on your behalf.The name of Jesus guarantees<br>
peace in troubled times. There is counsel in that name so when<br>
your soul is troubled, call upon the name of Jesus. The bible<br>
calls Him the Prince of peace.<br>
With the name of Jesus in your hand, a new day dawns on your<br>
life. With faith in the name of Jesus, there is a change of story<br>
for you! The bible says in that the signs will follow those that<br>
believe, the name puts you in command of every situation in your<br>
life. When we engage the name of Jesus n faith, miracles, signs<br>
and wonders will follow.<br>
The depth of understanding you have in the name of Jesus will<br>
determine the result you get when you make use of the name.<br>
Your spiritual understanding of the name of Jesus is key to<br>
experiencing your signs and wonders, the name of Jesus is full<br>
of wonders<br>
Christianity without the supernatural is fake religion, if the<br>
supernatural is not happening around you then you are not<br>
experiencing true Christianity. By engaging the name of God, you<br>
experience the supernatural things, you start to get things . The<br>
name of Jesus is a gift from God to the believer, the name of<br>
Jesus is the key to every door, you can use the name of Jesus<br>
to cross your red sea and overcome your problems.<br>
Prayer Point: Jesus touch me tonight, give me an answer<br>

<p dir="ltr">1 Co 8:4-13<br>
4 So now, what about it? Should we eat meat that has been sacrificed to idols? Well, we all know that an idol is not really a god, and that there is only one God, and no other. 5 According to some people, there are a great many gods, both in heaven and on earth. 6 But we know that there is only one God, the Father, who created all things and made us to be his own; and one Lord Jesus Christ, who made everything and gives us life.</p>
<p dir="ltr">7 However, some Christians don’t realize this. All their lives they have been used to thinking of idols as alive, and have believed that food offered to the idols is really being offered to actual gods. So when they eat such food it bothers them and hurts their tender consciences. 8 Just remember that God doesn’t care whether we eat it or not. We are no worse off if we don’t eat it, and no better off if we do. 9 But be careful not to use your freedom to eat it, lest you cause some Christian brother to sin whose conscience is weaker than yours.</p>
<p dir="ltr">10 You see, this is what may happen: Someone who thinks it is wrong to eat this food will see you eating at a temple restaurant, for you know there is no harm in it. Then he will become bold enough to do it too, although all the time he still feels it is wrong.11 So because you “know it is all right to do it,” you will be responsible for causing great spiritual damage to a brother with a tender conscience for whom Christ died. 12 And it is a sin against Christ to sin against your brother by encouraging him to do something he thinks is wrong. 13 So if eating meat offered to idols is going to make my brother sin, I’ll not eat any of it as long as I live because I don’t want to do this to him.</p>

I longed to be happy. I wanted to be one of the happiest people in the entire world. I also desired meaning in life. I was looking for answers to the questions:</div>

More than that, I also longed to be free. I wanted to be one of the freest people in the whole world. Freedom to me was not simply <em>doing what you want to do</em> -- anyone can do that. Freedom, for me, meant having the power to do what you know you ought to do. Most people know what they ought to do but don't have the power to do it. So I started looking for answers.</div>

Where can one find positive change?</h1>

It seemed that almost everyone was into some sort of religion, so I did the obvious thing and went to church. I must have hit the wrong church, though, because it only made me feel worse. I went to church morning, noon and night, but it didn't help. I'm very practical, and when something doesn't work, I chuck it. So, I gave up religion.</div>

I began to wonder if prestige was the answer. Being a leader, accepting some cause, giving yourself to it, and being popular might do it, I thought. At the university I attended, the student leaders held the purse strings and threw their weight around. So I ran for freshman class president and got elected. It was great having everyone know me, making the decisions, and spending the university's money to get speakers I wanted. It was great, but it wore off like everything else I had tried. I would wake up Monday morning (usually with a headache because of the night before) and my attitude was, "Well, here goes another five days." I endured Monday through Friday. Happiness revolved around three nights a week -- Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Then the vicious cycle began all over again.</div>

Seeking life change, positive change</h1>

I suspect that few people in the universities and colleges of this country were more sincere about trying to find meaning, truth, and purpose in life than I was.</div>

During that time I noticed a small group of people -- eight students and two faculty members. There was something different about their lives. They seemed to know why they believed what they believed. They also seemed to know where they were going.</div>

The people I began to notice didn't just <em>talk</em> about love -- they got involved. They seemed to be riding above the circumstances of university life. While everyone else seemed under the pile, they appeared to have a content, peaceful state about them that wasn't driven by circumstances. They appeared to possess an inner, constant source of joy. They were disgustingly happy. They had something I didn't have.</div>

Like the average student, when somebody had something I didn't have, I wanted it. So, I decided to make friends with these intriguing people. Two weeks after that decision we were all sitting around a table in the student union -- six students and two faculty members. The conversation started to get around to God.</div>

Asking about life change, positive change</h1>

They were bothering me, so finally I looked over at one of the students, a good-looking woman (I used to think all Christians were ugly); and I leaned back in my chair (I didn't want the others to think I was interested) and I said, "Tell me, what changed your lives? Why are your lives so different from the others on campus?"</div>

That young woman must have had a lot of conviction. She looked me straight in the eye and said two words I never thought I'd hear as part of a solution in a university: "Jesus Christ."</div>

I said, "Oh, for God's sake, don't give me that garbage. I'm fed up with religion. I'm fed up with the church. I'm fed up with the Bible. Don't give me that garbage about religion."</div>

She shot back, "Hey, I didn't say religion, I said Jesus Christ." She pointed out something I'd never known before: Christianity is not a religion. Religion is when human beings try to work their way to God through good works; Christianity is God coming to men and women through Jesus Christ to offer a relationship with himself.</div>

There are probably more people in universities with misconceptions about Christianity than anywhere else in the world. Some time ago I met a teaching assistant who remarked in a graduate seminar that "anyone who walks into a church becomes a Christian." I replied, "Does walking into a garage make you a car?" I was told that a Christian is somebody who genuinely believes in Christ.</div>

As I considered Christianity, my new friends challenged me intellectually to examine Jesus' life. I found out that Buddha, Mohammed and Confucius never claimed to be God, but Jesus did. My friends asked me to look over the evidence for Jesus' deity. They were convinced that Jesus was God in human form who died on the cross for the sins of mankind, that he was buried, that he arose three days later, and that he could change a person's life today.</div>

I thought this was a farce. In fact, I thought most Christians were walking idiots. I'd met some. I used to wait for a Christian to speak up in the classroom so I could tear him or her up one side and down the other, and beat the professor to the punch. I imagined that if a Christian had a brain cell it would die of loneliness. I didn't know any better.</div>

But these people challenged me over and over. Finally, I accepted their challenge. I did it out of pride to refute them, thinking there were no facts. I assumed there wasn't any evidence a person could evaluate.</div>

After many months of study, my mind came to the conclusion that Jesus Christ must have been who he claimed to be. That presented quite a problem. My mind told me all this was true but my will was pulling me in another direction.</div>

I discovered that becoming a Christian was rather ego-shattering. Jesus Christ made a direct challenge to my will to trust him. Let me paraphrase him. "Look! I have been standing at the door and I am constantly knocking. If anyone hears me calling him and opens the door, I will come in" (Revelation 3:20). I didn't care if Christ did walk on water or turn water into wine, I didn't want any party-pooper around. I couldn't think of a faster way to ruin a good time. So here my mind was telling me Christianity was true and my will was running away.</div>

More aware that I hate my life</h1>

Whenever I was around those enthusiastic Christians, the conflict would begin. If you've ever been around happy people when you're miserable, you understand how they can bug you. They would be so happy and I would be so miserable that I'd literally get up and run right out of the student union. It came to the point where I'd go to bed at ten at night, and I wouldn't get to sleep until four in the morning. I knew I had to get it off my mind before I went out of my mind! Finally my head and my heart connected on December 19, 1959, at 8:30 p.m. during my second year at the university -- I became a Christian.</div>

That night I prayed four things to establish a relationship with Jesus Christ which has since transformed my life. First, I said, "Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for me." Second, I said, "I confess those things in my life that aren't pleasing to you and ask you to forgive me and cleanse me." Third, I said, "Right now, in the best way I know how, I open the door of my heart and life and trust you as my Savior and Lord. Take control of my life. Change me from the inside out. Make me the type of person you created me to be." The last thing I prayed was, "Thank you for coming into my life by faith." It was a faith based not upon ignorance but upon the evidence of history and God's Word.</div>

I'm sure you've heard various religious people talking about their personal bolt-of-lightning experience. Well, after I prayed, nothing happened. I mean nothing. And I still didn't sprout wings. In fact, after I made that decision, I felt worse. I literally felt I was going to vomit. <em>Oh, no</em>, I thought,<em>what did you get sucked into now?</em> I really felt I'd gone off the deep end (and I'm sure some people think I did!).</div>

God and life change, positive change</h1>

But in six months to a year-and-a-half, I found out that I hadn't gone off the deep end. My life <em>was </em>changed. I was once in a debate with the head of the history department at a Midwestern university, and I said my life had been changed. He interrupted me with "McDowell, are you trying to tell us that God really changed your life in the 20th century? What areas?" After 45 minutes he said, "OK, that's enough." Let me tell you a few of the things I told him and the audience that day.</div>

One area God changed was my restlessness. I always had to be occupied. I'd walk across the campus and my mind was like a whirlwind with conflicts bouncing around the walls. I'd sit down and try to study, but I couldn't. A few months after I made that decision for Christ, a kind of mental peace developed. Don't misunderstand. I'm not talking about the absence of conflict. What I found in this relationship with Jesus wasn't absence of conflict but the ability to cope with it. I wouldn't trade that for anything in the world.</div>

Another area that started to change was my bad temper. I used to blow my stack if somebody just looked at me cross-eyed. I still have the scars from almost killing a guy my first year at college. My temper was such a part of me that I didn't try to consciously change it. I arrived at the crisis of losing my temper only to find it was gone! Only once in 14 years have I exploded (and when I blew it that time, I made up for it for about six years!).</div>

Positive change on hatred</h1>

There's another area of which I'm not proud. But I mention it because a lot of people need to have the same change in their lives, and I found the source of change: a relationship with Jesus Christ. That area is hatred. I had a lot of hatred in my life. It wasn't something outwardly manifested, but there was a kind of inward grinding. I was ticked off with people, with things, with issues.</div>

But I hated one man more than anyone else in the world: my father. I hated his guts. To me he was the town alcoholic. Everybody knew my dad was a drunk. My friends would make jokes about my father staggering around downtown. They didn't think it bothered me. I was like other people -- laughing on the outside. But let me tell you, I was crying on the inside. There were times I'd go out in the barn and see my mother beaten so badly she couldn't get up, lying in the manure behind the cows. When we had friends over, I would take my father out, tie him up in the barn, and park the car around the silo. We would tell our friends he'd had to go somewhere. I don't think anyone could have hated anyone more than I hated my father.</div>

After I made that decision for Christ, he entered my life and his love was so strong that he took the hatred and turned it upside down. I was able to look my father squarely in the eyes and say, "Dad, I love you." And I really meant it. After some of the things I'd done, that shook him up.</div>

When I transferred to a private university I was in a serious car accident. With my neck in traction, I was taken home. I'll never forget my father coming into my room. He asked me, "Son, how can you love a father like me?" I said, "Dad, six months ago I despised you." Then I shared with my dad the conclusions I had come to about Christ: "Dad, I let Jesus Christ come into my life. I can't explain it completely, but as a result of that relationship I've found the capacity to love and accept not only you but other people just the way they are."</div>

Forty-five minutes later one of the greatest thrills of my life occurred. Somebody in my own family, someone who knew me so well I couldn't pull the wool over his eyes, said to me, "Son, if God can do in my life what I've seen him do in yours, then I want to give him the opportunity." Right there my father prayed with me and trusted Christ for the forgiveness of his sins.</div>

Usually the changes take place over several days, weeks, months, or even a year. The life of my father was changed right before my eyes. It was as if somebody reached down and turned on a light bulb. I've never seen such a rapid change before or since. My father touched whiskey only once after that. He got it as far as his lips and that was it. I've come to one conclusion. A relationship with Jesus Christ changes lives.</div>

The Holy Spirit was given to live inside those who believe in Jesus, in order to produce God's character in the life of a believer. In a way that we cannot do on our own, the Holy Spirit will build into our lives love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Gal. 5:22-23). Rather than trying to be loving, patient, kind, God asks us to rely on Him to produce these qualities in our lives. Thus Christians are told to walk in the Spirit (Gal. 5:25) and be filled with the Spirit (Eph. 5:18). And the Holy Spirit empowers Christians to perform ministerial duties that promote spiritual growth among Christians (Rom. 12; 1Cor. 12; Eph. 4).</div>

The Holy Spirit also performs a function for non-Christians as well. Message<br>
When Adam and Eve fell into sin in the Garden of Eden, this<br>
brought enmity between the Creator and His human creator.</p>
<p dir="ltr">The first man and woman decided to love when God hated<br>
(Genesis 3:6). It is unfortunate that this spiritual depravity has<br>
continued till date. Men tend to love the world more than their<br>
Creator as a result of the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh and<br>
the pride of life (1st John 2:14-14).<br>
“Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of<br>
Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove<br>
out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden<br>
Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to<br>
keep the way of the tree of life.”<br>
Genesis 3:23-24</p>
<p dir="ltr">The enmity and separation symbolised by the scripture above<br>
lingered for a very long time until God decided to reconcile<br>
mankind to Himself. God’s expectation is that men will get<br>
reconciled to Him by accepting the hand of love He has<br>
stretched out to humanity. Like the father of the prodigal son,<br>
God is expectantly waiting for mankind to come home to eternal<br>
bliss. God wants to make children out of his human creation.</p>
<p dir="ltr">“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the<br>
children of God.”<br>
Matthew 5:9<br>
Who are the peacemakers? The peacemakers are those who<br>
realise their state of enmity with God and endeavour to forsake<br>
their sinful ways of life in order to please Him. Apostle Paul<br>
wrote that:</p>
<p dir="ltr">“And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by<br>
Jesus Christ , and hath given to us the ministry of<br>
reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the<br>
world unto himself , not imputing their trespasses unto them;<br>
and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.”<br>
2nd Corinthians 5:18-19<br>
Have you been reconciled with your Lord and Maker? Do not<br>
forget that the peacemakers are blessed; they will enjoy the<br>
benefits associated with being a child of God.</p>

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: TUESDAY 20th JANUARY 2015

<p dir="ltr">THEME: THE WORD & THE BLOOD</p>
<p dir="ltr">MEMORISE: And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb,<br>

READ: HEBREW 12:22-25</p>
<p dir="ltr">22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the<br>
living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable<br>
company of angels,</p>
<p dir="ltr">23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which<br>
are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the<br>
spirits of just men made perfect,</p>
<p dir="ltr">24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the<br>
blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.</p>
<p dir="ltr">25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped<br>
not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not<br>
we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from<br>

<p dir="ltr">MESSAGE<br>
There are two irresistible weapons available to the children of<br>
God in spiritual warfare. These are then Word [of God] and the<br>
Blood [of Jesus Christ]. The Word is so powerful that the entire<br>
universe was made by abnormality in your life under control,<br>
just as He did in Genesis 1. Death is the greatest problem that<br>
confronts mankind. The Bible in 1st Corinthians 15:56a reveals<br>
that the power of death lies in sin:</p>
<p dir="ltr">“The sting of death is sin;”<br>
But praise God, the Blood of Jesus took care of sin once and for<br>
all. Revelation 1:5b says that:<br>
“Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sin in his<br>
own blood,”<br>
Once the matter of sin is dealt with by the sinless Blood of<br>
Jesus Christ, the evil sting of death is rendered powerless.<br>
As such, when a child of God is armed with the Word and with<br>
the Blood, victory if fully decided.<br>
 The question then is: why are<br>
some children of God still living defeated lives? The problem is,<br>
for these two weapons of spiritual warfare to be effective for any<br>
child of God, certain conditions must be fulfilled. One of such<br>
conditions is that they must be ready to honour God’s Word, no<br>
matter the cost. At times, when some children of God are<br>
caught in heinous sins that should not even be heard of among<br>
moralists, they chorus, “it is the devil’s work.” Its as if John<br>
10:10 has been erased from the Bibles. Because such<br>
Christians do not honour God’s Word by keeping it, the Word<br>
can’t work for them. When a so-called child of God continues to<br>
kiss women other than his wife and blatantly disregard God’s<br>
Word in 1st Thessalonians 5:22 that says,<br>
“Abstain from all appearance of evil.”<br>
The Word will not be effective for him in fighting against the<br>
likes of Delilah. Or is it the Blood of Jesus Christ, who some nail<br>
to the cross times without number as they rise and fall, that<br>
would avail for them? Notice that the Bible in the concluding<br>
part of Revelation 12:11 says that:<br>
“….and they loved not their lives unto the death.”</p>
<p dir="ltr">For the Blood of Jesus to work for you, you are expected to<br>
resist sin to the point of, if necessary, shedding your own blood<br>
(Hebrews 12:4). I pray that the Word and the Blood will work for<br>
you at all times in Jesus’ Name.</p>
<p dir="ltr">ACTION POINT:<br>
Determine to put the Word of God into proper application in<br>
your daily life, and plead the Blood of Jesus Christ against all<br>
negative situations of life for a pleasant turn around.</p>

Question: "How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit?"

<p dir="ltr">Answer: An important verse in understanding the filling of the<br>
Holy Spirit is John 14:16 , where Jesus promised the Spirit<br>
would indwell believers and that the indwelling would be<br>
permanent. It is important to distinguish the indwelling from<br>
the filling of the Spirit. The permanent indwelling of the Spirit<br>
is not for a select few believers, but for all believers. There are<br>
a number of references in Scripture that support this<br>
conclusion. First, the Holy Spirit is a gift given to all believers<br>
in Jesus without exception, and no conditions are placed upon<br>
this gift except faith in Christ (John 7:37-39 ). Second, the Holy<br>
Spirit is given at the moment of salvation ( Ephesians 1:13 ).<br>
Galatians 3:2 emphasizes this same truth, saying that the<br>
sealing and indwelling of the Spirit took place at the time of<br>
believing. Third, the Holy Spirit indwells believers<br>
permanently. The Holy Spirit is given to believers as a down<br>
payment, or verification of their future glorification in Christ (2<br>
Corinthians 1:22 ; Ephesians 4:30 ).</p>
<p dir="ltr">This is in contrast to the filling of the Spirit referred to in<br>
Ephesians 5:18 . We should be so completely yielded to the<br>
Holy Spirit that He can possess us fully and, in that sense, fill<br>
us. Romans 8:9 and Ephesians 1:13-14 states that He dwells<br>
within every believer, but He can be grieved (Ephesians 4:30 ),<br>
and His activity within us can be quenched (1 Thessalonians<br>
5:19 ). When we allow this to happen, we do not experience<br>
the fullness of the Spirit's working and His power in and<br>
through us. To be filled with the Spirit implies freedom for<br>
Him to occupy every part of our lives, guiding and controlling<br>
us. Then His power can be exerted through us so that what<br>
we do is fruitful to God. The filling of the Spirit does not apply<br>
to outward acts alone; it also applies to the innermost<br>
thoughts and motives of our actions. Psalm 19:14 says, "May<br>
the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be<br>
pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer."</p>
<p dir="ltr">Sin is what hinders the filling of the Holy Spirit, and obedience<br>
to God is how the filling of the Spirit is maintained. Ephesians<br>
5:18 commands that we be filled with the Spirit; however, it is<br>
not praying for the filling of the Holy Spirit that accomplishes<br>
the filling. Only our obedience to God's commands allows the<br>
Spirit freedom to work within us. Because we are still infected<br>
with sin, it is impossible to be filled with the Spirit all of the<br>
time. When we sin, we should immediately confess it to God<br>
and renew our commitment to being Spirit-filled and Spirit-<br>
led.</p>
